All Things Bright and Beautiful

Each canister that opens,
Each sewer pipe that sings,
We blight their glowing colours,
Put oil upon their wings:

All things bright and beautiful,
All creatures great and small,
All things wise and wonderful,
Mankind shall kill them all.

The stripped-eroded mountain,
The stagnant river by,
The car fumes in the morning
That darken up the sky:

The mildness in the winter,
The ultraviolet sun,
The radioactive garden,
We made them every one:

All things bright and beautiful,
All creatures great and small,
All things wise and wonderful,
Mankind shall kill them all.

We wear gas masks to see them,
Let Geiger counters tell
How great is Man Almighty
Who spoilt things so well:
