Index of Deserted Villages in Norfolk

It is difficult to provide a definitive list of all the deserted villages in Norfolk - particularly as new lost communities are still being discovered. The list below is taken from Alan Davison's book Deserted Villages in Norfolk (1996) which features most of the well known locations. However, I have added another list (further down the page) of other possible locations - some taken from Maurice Beresford and John Hurst's list and some identified from studying O/S maps of Norfolk.

The identification of DMVs is further complicated by the fact that some settlements have not disappeared entirely but have merely shrunk or shifted. Norfolk has also lost villages due to coastal erosion and due to the creation of the Stanford Training Area (STANTA) in the Brecklands.

(Hyper-linked place-names have their own complete page. More complete pages will be added in due course. This is a work in progress.)
